Thanks to Brenda Fischer, one of our team from last year. Brenda wants to , but is unable to come with us this year, so filled a huge suitcase full of school supplies and toys for us to take with us- Mike has "offered" to take the bag. Brenda also has her son Drew on the hunt for more soccer balls to bring along! Thanks for your generosity Brenda- you'll be with us in spirit on this trip.

Louisa got in touch with a group of ladies from Calgary South Community Church, who gave us 103 of these adorable little people. ( I wonder if they know the group of ladies from Anne's town that did this for us last year?). How amazingly generous people are- Thank you!!
My contact from last year has again given me 20 little bears to take to Zambia. A school-teacher, friend of mine has asked her students to gather supplies for me to take. (pencils, pencil crayons, erasers, sharpeners, etc.). I am going to approach the local hardware store about donating a couple of hammers, and a few other things. (the quality of tools available to Zambians is quite poor as we found out last year). I'm striking out on medical type supplies. (only one drugstore in town and they weren't very helpful). Does anyone else have contacts who might have access to things like bandaids, iodine, gauze, polysporin, etc?
ReplyDeleteour local shoppers drug mart has offered to give us a supply of things, which we will pick up when we go to get our malaria pills, and Louisa works at a clinic so I'm counting on her to get some freebies. The clinic she works at gave us a huge bag of condoms last year - some were even flavoured- not sure if they knew what THAT was all about at the Bwafwano clinic last year, but I'm sure they were all put to good use!
DeleteBrenda comes through again! We have 12 soccer balls, pumps and needles to bring along. Now we know what we'll be doing at lunch time! Thanks Brenda, and son Drew.
